INN Springboard

Did you just launch a nonprofit news outlet? Do you have an idea for the next great local news website? The Springboard initiative increases the capacity of leaders who have recently launched, or have firm plans to found, a nonprofit news organization. Applications for the next cohort will open in late June 2021, and the program will take place in September.

In particular, we seek applicants who

-reflect the diversity of the communities they seek to serve.

-hold leadership positions at nonprofit news organizations launched within the last two years OR are developing plans to launch a news organization.

-express interest in increasing business leadership skills and in developing sustainable funding strategies.

This program is remote, you do not need to be associated with an INN member to apply, and it is free of charge for selected participants. The cohort will meet weekly during September 2021.

Challenges abound when starting a new nonprofit news outlet or navigating the early days of a launch. That’s why the INN Springboard creates a space for participants to learn business modeling strategies, engage with a leadership expert, gain exposure to fundraising tools, review financial resources for early-phase nonprofit news outlets and connect with a supportive community of peers and nonprofit news leaders.

You can meet the 2020 Springboard cohort here.

This program is supported by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
