Report for America is a national nonprofit program that places talented, service-oriented journalists in newsrooms around the country. In 2019, we deployed 60 journalists to 50 newsrooms in 28 states and Puerto Rico to cover critical beats such as criminal justice, climate, public health and education, with a focus on improving communities and holding powerful institutions accountable. In 2020, we will deploy 250 journalists. Our vision is to catalyze a movement of public service journalism that strengthens democracy by improving the quality and quantity of local news. Join the movement! If selected, Report for America will help you select a talented reporter. We will also provide training and pay half of the reporter's salary up to $20,000.
