How Five Newsrooms Benefited from NewsMatch this Year

Last week, we announced in partnership with News Revenue Hub and The Miami Foundation that more than 260 nonprofit newsrooms will be participating in the fifth annual NewsMatch campaign, the largest matching giving campaign in nonprofit news launching Nov. 1.

The 2019 campaign was the largest yet, with an initial pool of $3.37 million in philanthropic funds leveraged into a $43.5 million payout — a nearly 1,200% return on philanthropic investments that infused much-needed cash into independent newsrooms just as the coronavirus disrupted business as usual.

As the next NewsMatch campaign is getting ready to launch next month, Mark Glaser interviewed INN members South Dakota News Watch, Sahan Journal, The Current, Patagonia Regional Times and Mississippi Today to hear about how much money they raised last year, how it helped their newsrooms in 2020 and what they would tell others interested in participating.
