Double Exposure

Double Exposure was the best kept secret in investigative journalism and film circles last year, and we want to make sure everyone knows about it this time around. It is truly a unique opportunity for journalists to meet filmmakers and explore each others' crafts, swap skills and perspectives, and possibly collaborate on bringing investigative stories to the big screen. It combines a film series on investigative works with a professional conference for journalists and filmmakers.
This year, Double Exposure will focus on major investigative stories--race and police conduct, prisons, financial secrecy. Other conversations will cover private investigations, notions of truth in journalism and art, stories that grow out of personal experience, and access to the platforms, funders and cutting edge projects that you want to know. DX 2016's symposium will take place at the National Press Club, with film screenings at the National Portrait Gallery.
Double Exposure pairs film screenings for the public with a professional conference connecting journalists and filmmakers. For practitioners, it's two days of hands-on workshops, panels, lightning talks and access the the people--directors, editors, producers and funders--who can help turn great stories into great films.
Speakers at DX 2016 include directors Steve James (ABACUS: SMALL ENOUGH TO JAIL), Ezra Edelman (OJ: MADE IN AMERICA), Kirsten Johnson (CAMERAPERSON), James Solomon, (THE WITNESS); Penny Lane, (NUTS!), Theodore Braun (BETTING ON ZERO), Lyric Cabral (T)ERROR, Ken Dornstein (MY BROTHER'S BOMBER), Kief Davidson and Richard Ladkani (THE IVORY GAME), Ted Braun (BETTING ON ZERO) and many more, along with journalists including Ann Hornaday (Washington Post) Phillip Martin (WGBH), Ron Nixon (The New York Times), Franklin Foer (Slate), Caitlin Dickerson (The New York Times), Tennessee Watson (Reveal). On hand will also be The Truth Box, in which people are videotaped confessing to a lie they have told in the past.
