News Giving Roadmap

Programs > Fundraising > News Giving Roadmap

Over the past decade, the nonprofit news movement has taken great strides toward attracting investments from individuals — which accounted for more than one-third of total revenue at INN’s member newsrooms in 2019.  Gifts from individual donors form a sustainable revenue source that improves fiscal self-sufficiency, accelerates mission focus and innovation and supports organizational growth. Yet many of our members lack the fundraising expertise  — or access to the tools of the trade — that would help them increase this important source of financial sustainability.

INN has created the News Giving Roadmap in response to this need. The first-of-its-kind for nonprofit news, this comprehensive program is designed to meet our members where they are — from a startup building a case for support to an established publication setting up an endowment — and take their fundraising to the next level.

How does it work? Each newsroom starts with an online assessment that helps place them on the Roadmap, after which they are eligible for individual consulting with INN’s fundraising experts and will be directed to the tools, training and shared services.
