INN Webinar: From Fiscal Sponsorship to Independent Nonprofit

March 28 @ 10:30 am UTC-4

Navigating the "graduation" from fiscal sponsorship to running your own 501(c)3 is a critical juncture for many nonprofit news organizations.  More than a third of INN members are fiscally sponsored, whether by community groups, INN or other 501(c)3s. If you anticipate starting up an organization under sponsorship, are sponsored now or recently struck out on your own following sponsorship, this training will help you determine when to go independent and how to do it in a way that maximizes your success and impact.

This training is free to INN members and $30 per person for non-members. It is designed for executive directors, operations and finance leaders and board members of organizations that are sponsored now or recently activated their own 501(c)3.

By attending this webinar, organization leaders will better understand:

  • How to decide if separation is right for their organization: What should go into the decision-making process? (Hint: it's not all about the money)

  • What goes into a successful separation: What are the major steps of the separation process? (including timing and cost estimates)

  • What it means to be on your own: What are the responsibilities and costs that newly separated nonprofits assume from their fiscal sponsors?
