Note: The forum will begin with an event Monday evening, Feb. 25 and conclude at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27. The event is being streamed by Detroit Public Television, and attendees may appear in the footage. An agenda is forthcoming.
Quality news and information are essential to democracy, but the media are facing unprecedented challenges. Deep cuts in local reporting, the spread of misinformation and rapidly declining trust in media have undermined the way residents are informed. Yet the technology-driven disruption has also sparked new ideas, new models and new opportunities for organizations committed to the information needs of communities.
The Knight Media Forum, which will take place Feb. 25-27, 2019 in Miami, is designed to help funders from across the country find strategic ways to invest in strengthening local news, communities and our democracy. The gathering will be oriented towards action in our cities. We expect you to leave with:
- Awareness of cutting-edge issues and major trends in community news and information;
- Practical tools and replicable ideas; and
- New partners and relationships to execute projects.
This year, we will start complementing the forum with year-round programming by our partners at Media Impact Funders.
The forum is designed for foundation presidents, their board members and executive staff. With support from Knight Foundation, there is no fee for the seminar. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis until the seminar is full. Please RSVP online.
