The Institute for Nonprofit News is currently accepting nominations for the INN Emerging Leaders Council, a new initiative to identify and support current and future leaders in nonprofit news. Support for the 2017 program year is being provided by the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation.
The nomination deadline is March 15, 2017.
The program will bring emerging leaders together in person twice a year for learning and leadership development, as a means to actively build and broaden the pipeline of talent into business leadership for public service journalism, and to build the business skills of journalists in broader leadership roles. Participants will have additional opportunities throughout the year for trainings and professional development. Our focus is on nonprofit news leaders below the level of directors and top editors — business and operational managers who can rise to become future top executives of the most successful nonprofit news media in the U.S.
This program is intended for full-time staff at INN member organizations who have the potential to lead the nonprofit news sector over the next 20 years. We encourage nomination of individuals who may be mid-level in their careers with the potential to lead their own or another organization, or leaders of small organizations that would like to develop their potential to run large nonprofits.
In particular, we seek candidates who:
- Show potential to someday lead a nonprofit news organization
- Express interest in the business of journalism and general leadership
- Are someone we want to retain in nonprofit news
- Will invest themselves in the peer group as well as draw from it
The program will be coordinated and led as a peer organization by Jason Alcorn, a nonprofit news consultant and experienced advisor to INN members..
Interested participants should be nominated by their Executive Director / CEO or, if they themselves are the director of a small organization, by their board chair. Participants will be chosen from among the eligible nominations by INN and will be notified in April 2017.
