The INN Futures Fellowships

Creating career paths for tomorrow’s nonprofit news publishers

America’s nonprofit newsrooms are expanding rapidly to fill community news needs, and with this success comes a growing need: this emerging media sector needs a new generation of leaders to fuel continued growth.

To mark its 10th anniversary and strengthen public service journalism for the decades ahead, INN is launching the News Futures Fellowships. Six year-long post-graduate fellowships — 30 over five years — will be launched to work with 120 nonprofit news organizations on transformative projects in audience, membership and revenue development.

The fellowships create a career ladder by providing hands-on experience, entrepreneurial skills, and professional networks for the public service news leaders of the future. They catalyze growth in this important area of journalism by providing independent newsrooms with recent graduates who can apply cutting-edge practices to expand their reach and impact.

The INN Futures Fellowships are a catalytic investment that infuses nonprofit news with the talent, leadership and practical application of knowledge needed to make a sustainable and thriving contribution to an informed, healthy democracy.
