INN Training: Reporters’ rights and resources in the current climate

Reporters' Rights and Resources

In this climate of tension between democratic mandates for openness and official preference for secrecy, reporters  must understand their rights and how to respond if they’re challenged. Attorneys from the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press will join INN members for a training on RCFP’s newly updated media law guides for reporters.

The training will cover the latest versions of RCFP’s Open Government Guide, a state-by-state resource of the rights of reporters and the public to see information and attend meetings of state and local governments, and the Reporter’s Privilege Compendium, which details each state’s policies around the right not to be compelled to testify or disclose sources and information in court.

There will be an opportunity to ask questions, and to learn about other resources RCFP has available to INN members.
